Sailor injured by Houthi attack on cargo ship 'Verbena'

A crew member was seriously injured on Thursday in a missile attack by Yemeni Houthis on a merchant ship in the Gulf of Aden, the US command center Centcom reported.
The ship, which was carrying wooden materials under the flag of the Republic of Palau, was en route from Malaysia to Italy when it was hit by two cruise missiles in the Gulf of Aden. They caused a fire on board. The crew is said to still be fighting the fire. One crew member was seriously injured. He was transferred to another ship for care. His nationality was not disclosed.
Ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, one of the most important shipping lanes in the world, have been regularly attacked by the Houthis from Yemen for months. They do this in response to the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip and have declared their solidarity with the Palestinians. The US and its allies have carried out several air strikes on their bases in Yemen.
The Houthis rebelled against Yemen’s Saudi-backed government in 2014 and control part of the country from the capital Sanaa.
